Embroidery Design Commissions

The embroideries shown below are the result of commissions undertaken by myself over a period of years. Nearly all of my commissions are ecclesiastical embroidery concentrating mainly on goldwork. The embroidery designs are unique and specific for the individual or organisation.

White Burse and Veil

This white burse and veil are presently in St Laurence's Church, Middleton-St-George, Darlington, UK. The theme for the cross was taken from the cross of St Cuthbert, the saint associated closely with nearby Durham Cathedral.

This Mothers Union banner can be found in St Augustine's Church, Warrington.

Green burse, veil and pulpit fall

The theme for the set is based on the parable of the sower and the trinity. The celtic influences of the region are found in the design.

Green Stole

The design reflects the places where the priest has served, and his experiences. Much of his life has been in mining communities in the north east of England.
The knot represents: the intertwining of the earthly and the divine (the human Jesus and divine Christ); the celtic influence of the North East; tight knit mining communities.
The gnarled tree patterns reflect: pit props from the area in which the priest served much of his time; wooden cross of Christ; earthly existence.

Mothers Union Banner for St.Cuthbert, Darlington

The outline shape and brick patterning are derived from the church building. The intertwined halos show the divinity of Christ (the halo of Jesus) is bound up in the human state (the halo of Mary), and also resemble intertwined wedding rings to represent the family. The outstretched arms of Jesus show that he welcomes all, and is also a sign of the cross to come.
